Description

Through all my years in San Michon, all the blood and sweat and darkling roads I walked, I learned one of my greatest lessons sitting in that Library with those girls in the still of the night. In true Kristoff fashion, it took turns I wasn’t expecting, blew my mind several times, and consistently broke and stitched my heart back together, ultimately advancing my therapy needs. Empire of the Vampire, divided into six parts, suddenly transformed into something irresistibly awesome starting from part four. But instead, 458/739 pages in, I’ve realised this is likely to be the last time I read a book by Jay Kristoff. From the very first page recap and description of the characters you get a glimpse of the humour and one liners you are going to see throughout the book.

We get perspectives from both the vampire historian Jean-François, as well as from Gabriel’s undead sister Celene and this is where the narrative format of telling a story within a story really shines. Since its announcement, especially after hearing it will be an illustrated novel, I was undoubtedly excited to get to reading Empire of the Vampire. With the aid of his sister, Celene, the three seek the answers to the importance of the Holt Grail and Dior’s purpose in the ending of the damned ending of the world.Gabriel de León is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. There is no easy way of saying this: I hate-read the majority of the first half of Empire of the Vampire.

Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own.
