I also love the way the plot echoes those classic golden age themes, here the isolated community with secrets.

As the murders happen, motives are unclear and the author lays plenty of false trails for the three dahlias as well as the reader to follow. This is the second book in the series as i have yet to read the first i really enjoyed it, i do not think you have to read the first to enjoy this story but i will go back and read the first. Katy Watson has succeeded in delivering another cosy murder mystery romp, one which affectionately plays with the tropes of the genre. The plot is well concieved, and has several layers - and there is a good cast of characters (literally, as the action is centred around the filming of a movie). The way she is described in the first book and until the page where they visit Brigitte in London, that lady never touched a biscuit - if anything, Caro would be the one hoping for biscuits with tea. It taps into that love we have of the locked room mystery, and that well known detective that we love in all it’s reincarnations. As a death rocks the production, the Dahlias turn sleuth, with a storm raging, there is more murder and they are cut off from help. This helped me stay connected to each of the three lead characters and aided the pacing of the story.

The middle one, Caro Hooper, had played Dahlia Lively for 13 years when it was a TV series, and was the most well-known of the three. Like all good crime stories, this brings something of an edge into its glossy golden age tinted spectacles with the secrets that are unravelled.Katy Watson grew up in North Wales, as part of a family of folk singers, storytellers and murder mystery addicts.

I discovered this series about two weeks ago and since then I devoured the first book in the series (The Three Dahlias), the fun Christmas short story (Dahlias Decks the Halls), and now the second book, (A Very Lively Murder).

One of the plot points was a little hard to believe: that an actor could just change their name and no one would recognize them for years even though they had continued to act.

Rosalind stared out of the front windows of Tŷ Gwyn, frowning, and Posy knew she wasn't seeing the wet, Welsh weather raging. But things take a nightmare turn when a prop weapon is replaced with the real thing - with almost fatal consequences for her fellow Dahlia, Rosalind King. She knew about what her husband did all those years ago and it became clear that justice will never be served.
