Within Neoreader, you can annotate and scribble on all the file formats, but be aware that although you can view your handwriting on your NA2+, you will only be able to export embedded handwriting in PDF files for viewing on other devices. It continues to amaze me what Onyx has done in terms of making E Ink refresh like less static screen technologies. The Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus is a convincing package for anyone who wants a tablet mainly for reading and taking notes.

There is one key feature that the Max Lumi has and the Note series doesn't: the ability to act as an E Ink monitor for your PC.

The added benefit of Android has the same effect on the utility of this tablet as Red Bull on people's forelimbs. The scrolling buttons on the cover case also change their functions according to the orientation of the screen. In addition to his extensive journalism experience, Basil is also skilled in video production, content strategy, and vegan baking, and runs Tech[edit], a technology-focused YouTube channel. However, some users did comment on hearing an annoying noise when writing with the stylus, similar to the sound of a dry felt tip on paper. In Evernote, another officially supported app, I didn't see those pauses, but sometimes the pen would drop strokes.

You'll also get very used to Onyx's "nav ball," a dot on the screen that pops up into a configurable menu of options, including a virtual Back button. The Note Air 2 is natively set to a warm yellowy colour, which is in sharp contrast to the blue-tinged light emitted by most tablets and e-reader back lights.

There’s a choice of E Ink refresh speeds on offer, from the infrequent pages turns of ‘normal’ to the ultra-quick, video-capable X mode – although ‘speed’ and ‘A2’ are the ones to use for clear, concise-looking text without any ghosting (something evident in ‘normal’ mode). It’ll run the Kindle app and display your eBooks and PDF files, as well as work as a great digital notepad – no problem. After all, the practical highlights Google introduces in its latest OS versions like Material U, wouldn’t be apparent through Boox’s skin.

Now, E Ink doesn't transition from one frame to another smoothly, it stutters a bit, so this tab isn't a good option for moving content like movies or games. As well as offering protection, the case can also be used to prop up the e-reader, which proved rather handy for reading on the train. Performance isn't the sprightliest; the Note Air 2 doesn't feel as fast as an iPad, but performs acceptably. There are a range of folio cases available for it, and I tested it with the Magnetic Case in orange (pictured). Onyx is better than other E Ink slate makers at delivering tablets with relatively up-to-date versions of Android, although with all of these gadgets, I never assume they'll get updates beyond their initial major version.
