The legends in this book span centuries and continents, but what they have in common is that each one has blazed a trail for generations to come. I love thinking that they're closing their eyes, looking inside themselves, to step into the shoes of these famous people, emulating their story. It resulted in this beautiful and profound book, which chronicles the struggles and achievements of historic and contemporary black women.

Though it’s a noticeably US-focused selection, there are British women featured among the 50 too, such as Diane Abbot, Tessa Sanderson and Shirley Bassey, which is nice to see. Not just for girls, this is an inspiring book for any child as it shows how a determined nature, ambition and hard work can make important change in the world. It harkens back to classic children's illustrations done by Mary Blair or Mr Happy by Roger Hargreaves. I unfortunately cannot have any books shipped to me to be signed, so definitely keep an eye out for my local events!She then went on to receive her MFA in Film and Video from CalArts where she snuck into Animation classes to learn from Disney and Dreamworks legends. He's a little young to understand some of the more complex words , but it's certainly one that will be referred back to over the next few years.
